Aloha!

Growing up in East Honolulu, first in Waikiki and then in Kahala, I share good memories of that life with many of you. I’ve raised my son in our District -- first in Kaimuki and now in Aina Haina and Niu Valley for the last twelve years. I know the challenges we face in our District. I understand the history behind them. I have worked deliberatively throughout my career to engage youth and citizens in developing the leadership to respond to those challenges.

As your Representative to the State House for the past two years, I have worked collaboratively to address the specific needs of our communities – and to represent the best interests of our children – in the Legislature. Serving as the Vice-Chair of the House Education Committee, I have been able to assist my colleagues in supporting ways to provide our children with the skills and knowledge to help them create a vibrant future. I have guided legislation to enhance our public, charter, and independent schools, as well as to address the early learning needs of our youngest.
Being a member of the legislative Task Force on Sustainability, as well as on the House Energy & Environment and Water, Land & Ocean Resources Committees, has enabled me to actively address the declining wellness of our land, ocean environment and coastlines, the vision of energy independence and less reliance on outside sources of supplies, and the essential need to perpetuate our natural resources.

I have enjoyed learning and meeting our residents during the Community Forums that my office has hosted. Through our surveys and regular correspondence and in conversing with neighbors as I have walked the District, again throughout these past months, I have a clearer sense about the specific issues that we are facing in East Honolulu. It is essential, particularly at this time, that we have an advocate in the State Legislature who knows our District, who is willing to speak up on behalf of our citizens, and who is able to separate the issues from the political agendas that try to define them.

I look forward to reacquainting myself with more of you and making new friends in these next months ahead. I invite you to contact me with any questions, concerns, and ideas you may have about how we can preserve the lifestyle that we cherish for our children, encourage diverse businesses to succeed, and create multi-faceted approaches to build on the strengths of what we already have in place.

Please join me in being of service to our community and our State. I ask for YOUR VOTE so that I can return to the State House as your Representative from the 18th District – on your behalf and for the sake of our children.

Mahalo Ke Akua,
