Voices for Change: Ep-8 - Lyla's guest is Frank Haas, a Director of
Historic Hawai'i Foundation, a statewide organization whose mission is to advocate for the preservation of the things that make Hawai`i very special; historic, sacred, and cultural sites. Haas relates, "One of the missions of the the Foundation is to educate people about preservation; why it's important. In addition to "brick and mortar" buildings, there are landscapes and streetscapes. For example, Kaimuki and Manoa on Oahu, and Lanai City in toto all have their individual characters that should be preserved. Why do people come here? What's so special about these islands? This place has a soul. And part of that soul defines who we are. And if we lose that, we become just like the mainland and we've lost something very, very special." If you believe that history is important, be sure to watch this special show.
